The Dancers of Happiness
Material: Cast iron / Dimensions: Height 235 cm
Location: A commissioned project at the Zurich site of an internationally active Swiss pharmaceutical company.
„The Dancers of Happiness“ is a sculpture designed specifically for this site. It is no copy-paste of an existing creation,
but completely rethought and based on concepts and dimensions arising through the influence of following points.
• Iron preparations as important pillar of our company.
• The patient
• The dynamics of the company
• Trust and transparency towards employees and patients
• The architecture of the premises
Looking at the premises, I noticed the horizontal lines leading from the main entrance to the reception desk on the
wall cladding and on the floor. My first ideas were inspired by these lines. An additional aspect was the awareness that
many company products help improve oxygenation and metabolism, which is a direct link to our bloodstream.
Accordingly, these lines then transformed into a human body made up of a perpetual cycle.
Looking at the sculpture, it only becomes apparent at asecond glance that the two bulging body parts stand on
the same legs. The legs are the foundation, here is the exchange between you, the drug developer, and the patient.
This process results in a great improvement of the patients’ well-being and benefit both sides as a healthy basis for
dynamic development. All this is reflected in that trusting handshake full of confidence looking forward to the way into
the future.
The sculpture slowly turns around its own axis. It makes you feel alive, as you are taking glances at it from different
angles again and again. It also points to the fact that the interaction between two parties changes in its design again
and again. It is in particular in these moments that trust and transparency are absolutely vital to continue a fruitful
cooperation.
„The Dancers of Happiness“ stands here now and the characters invite you to dance with them and share and feel
some of the happiness that is inherent in them.
